Apathy in the Inland Empire
There seems to be an ongoing sense of complacency with underachievement in several communities in the Inland Empire. Unfortunately there is a slight truth to many of the rumors that are said about the area. Growth is limited and long overdue in its largest of cities.
High school graduates are content with being just that. The notion of a higher education is nothing but a distant option. Unfortunately many females are content to live out their days with mindless jobs as a secretary, sales clerk, or server. If they attempt college they often drop out or assume any type of certificate will suffice and allow them to title themselves “college graduate.” Men in the area find strength in sales as well. With so many car dealerships, mechanic shops, and well-regarded positions at a local electronics and entertainment stores they think that they have achieved a noteworthy level of success. Sadly, a lanyard with the name of a major chain is not indicative of success.
Higher education is dismissed almost entirely. Why spend the money on college when you can buy a new car you honestly cannot afford, own a home in a neighborhood on it’s way downhill, and settle down with your lifelong underachieving soul mate that was spawned from a local trailer park.
Businesses offering specific services such as creative website design firms in Riverside, hospitals, and other local institutions in the Inland Empire find it difficult to fill positions though they may be receiving numerous applicants looking for work. The overall sense of apathy from a community that no one really expected anything from is merely living up to the notoriety that preceded it.
